Abu Dhabi’s Strategic Investment in Energy, Infrastructure and Education for the Future
May 5, 2008
Wong Auditorium - Tang Center
Technology and Development Program
The Middle East is one of the most dynamic regions of the world today. The Emirate of Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, is on the forefront of investment in long-term strategic development for alternative energy, sustainable infrastructure technologies and education. The Masdar Initiative was created in 2006 by the government of Abu Dhabi to positively impact the nation, region and world in these areas. MIT’s collaboration with Masdar Institute of Science & Technology is a significant step in forwarding this vision.
Attendees to this one-day symposium will hear from leaders of MIT and Masdar about the shared roles of academia, industry and government in solving these great, global challenges. MIT faculty, leaders of Masdar and industry representatives will discuss these three areas:
• Energy – global investment in clean, renewable energy technologies. Leading-edge research with a focus on solar energy
• Sustainable Development – green infrastructure technology and the Masdar Zero Carbon City
• Global Education and Joint Research – the Masdar Institute of Science & Technology and models for collaborative education
